My client approached me with a clear desire to update their bedroom, which had remained largely unchanged since the day they moved in some twenty-five years earlier. They wanted the space to feel like a true retreat at the end of a busy day — somewhere calm, comfortable, and subtly indulgent. While the aim was to introduce elements of hotel-style luxury, it was important that the room still felt personal and easy to live in rather than overly styled.
Practical considerations played a central role in shaping the design. Generous storage was essential to accommodate an extensive collection of dresses, alongside the inclusion of a dedicated dressing table area. Full-length curtains were also a key requirement, both to soften the room visually and to enhance the sense of warmth and privacy. The overall scheme focused on balancing comfort, function, and a quietly elevated atmosphere.
As this design was going to be all about storage there was a lot of preparatory work to get right before anyone was going to start on site. I designed the wardrobes to incorporate the dressing table, special attention was paid to the layout of the hanging spaces and drawers to ensure all the clothes would fit into their new home. Once on site we worked to a tight Christmas deadline so all trades were timed to allow for everyone to finish their work on time. The LED recessed channel lighting, framing the perimeter of the mirror on the dressing table were a key feature for me. The pendant lights were carefully positioned either side of the bed, each controlled by bronze switches adding that hotel vibe.
