The brief for the Hallway was to work with the existing wood panelling and mosaic floor, and source wallpaper and paint colours for the ceilings and walls up the stairs and landing. This being a busy family hallway, storage was required to hide away sports equipment, coats and shoes. Select Lighting for the two main hallway areas and a chandelier for the landing at the top of the stairs. Source freestanding furniture, ambient lighting and a mirror for the main hallway.
The wallpaper had to complement the panelling, fitting with the colours of the the wood carving, which had a black stain applied. The period of the house is Victorian and we wanted to work with the style of all the original features. William Morris wasn’t the first place I looked, however when I found it, we knew that it was the perfect match. The storage furniture seen by the stairs was painted in ‘Off Black’ from Farrow and Ball, inside the cupboard I went for a bright contrast with ‘Charlotte’s Locks’ also from F&B. The soft black wood of the credenza cabinet made a statement without taking over from the panelling and wallpaper. The fish eye mirror from Pooky gives a full reflection of the space. The large pendant lights needed to give maximum light to the space as the hallway is quite dark generally, so they were chosen with functionality primarily.
