About the project

I was asked to work with Collaborate Works again, having previously supported them at their other building, Steward House. This time the business was expanding into Export House, on the newly refurbished Victoria Way in Woking, taking on additional floors as the operation grew. The brief was clear: the spaces needed to feel fresh and corporate, but still modern and welcoming — somewhere that works well for day-to-day business, while feeling considered for clients arriving for meetings. Each floor includes a kitchenette and a suite of individual offices, so consistency across the building was important, without the interiors feeling flat or overly uniform.

Step by step project

We began by reviewing the layout of each floor, focusing on circulation, meeting points, and how people would move from the entrance through to the offices. From there, we developed a calm, contemporary base palette that would sit well across multiple levels. Modern carpet was sourced to bring softness underfoot and help with acoustics, with finishes chosen to suit a busy serviced-office environment. Kitchenettes were designed to feel clean and robust, with practical surfaces and simple details, while breakout seating was kept warm and approachable for informal conversations. The final scheme balanced durability with comfort, creating workspaces that feel professional, current, and easy to use.

Frequently asked questions

The following guidance offers clarity on my approach to workplace design, planning, and implementation. While these points serve as a helpful overview, each project is ultimately shaped by individual operational needs.

I work with a range of office environments, from private workplaces to shared and coworking spaces. Projects vary in scale, but the focus remains consistent: creating spaces that feel considered, functional, and comfortable to spend time in.

Every workplace begins with understanding how the space is used. Workflow, team structure, privacy, collaboration, and day-to-day practicalities all inform the layout. The aim is to create an environment that supports both productivity and wellbeing.

Yes. Shared work environments require careful planning to balance openness with privacy, as well as durability with comfort. Consideration is given to zoning, acoustics, lighting, and the subtle details that shape how a space feels to work in.

Absolutely. Many projects involve rethinking or improving existing spaces. Where structural constraints exist, the design focuses on making the most effective and balanced use of what is already in place.

A workplace should reflect the character of the business while remaining practical and enduring. Materials, colours, and finishes are selected not only for appearance, but for longevity and suitability in a working environment.

Early involvement is often the most beneficial, particularly when space planning or building works are involved. However, thoughtful improvements can be made at any stage, whether refreshing an existing office or adapting to changing needs.
